Week 11.

The blogs have really helped me by organizing all of my research. I was able to use a lot of the information in my blogs in my research proposal which made it easier to write. If I could start over, I would pick a more definite research question quicker. I think just organizing my research and getting enough information has been the hardest. As well as picking a research question. The easiest part has been conducting my interviews. I really like talking to people and I got to do that as well as learn in my interviews.

Week 10.5.

"Serenity Knows" would be really hard to define for most people unless they have been to a Spectrum meeting. It's not self-explanatory at all and pretty hard to make up something that would relate to G.L.B.T. or Spectrum.

Spectrum should be decently easy to define because it's the name of the G.L.B.T. organization on campus. They put on a lot of events for campus such as the drag show so I would assume that when people hear Spectrum, they would know what they do and what they're about.

Honestly, I haven't noticed any language of theirs that is different to what I would use on an everyday basis. They haven't used any words that I don't recognize. They have titles for things that they talk about such as "Serenity Knows." Other than that, I have been able to understand and follow along with everything they have been talking about. I'll be sure to be listening for things like that and track them down as we go.

Serenity Knows: About a 5-10 minute period of time where one person will stand up and talk about pop culture and things going on in the fame industry.

Week 9.

I think I'd be helpful to their community, especially if I decide to join. I would be helpful because I am good at planning events and getting things done. GLBT has entire weeks of events sometimes and I think I could be key in making those events the best they can be. Also, by doing this project, I think I'm getting a good word out for them. A lot of people probably don't know that this group exists. I find myself talking about my project and GLBT with friends sometimes. Also, anybody that does know about the group, might not realize that straight people are very involved with it as well. There are gay-straight alliances and people should know that they exist! For my own education, this whole process is a way for me to learn. I am learning more about people in general. I sit, watch, talk to them and just learn about them. I am also learning more about the homosexual lifestyle: what they feel like they're biggest biases towards them are, how they feel about certain controversies, etc. I am also learning more about how to research, fieldwork, write, and interview. These are all tools that I'll use throughout college so it's helpful.
