If I choose to study the French Club, there will be many factors to impact my views on different aspects during my field study such as my gender, my age, and my nationality. When most people think of the French culture, they picture women before men. Women are probably thought of before men because France is known to be more romantic and almost more high-class. This is intimidating because it almost puts more pressure on me, being a female, to know the language and get involved when there are French discussions happening around me. My age will affect my study because I will be interacting with older students who will be able to speak the language more fluently and know more about the country's history, politics, etc. Finally, my nationality will come into play because the United States hasn't always had a great relationship with France. It might be hard to really dig into the French culture if a large portion of Americans hold resentment against France.
From a subjective position, the French Club would be a good choice for me because French is my minor and I could learn more about the culture and language through this group. If I were able to speak French fluently, I would have more confidence in my major, tele-communications. I studied some French in high school and would love to keep up with it so that I could have that for the rest of my life. French Club would be a great option!
