The factors that I'm considering as I start to explore possible cultures are if I would possibly like to join this group in the future after gaining more knowledge and understanding. I think sororities would be a great option for that reason because I have considered rushing for fall semester next year. This way, I could learn more about the different sororities and see if this culture/subculture is right for me. I'm also considering what is interesting to me. GLBT would be fascinating because I think that gays, lesbians, and bisexuals deserve just as many rights and privileges as the rest of us. They get shunned so often and it's very unfair. I am a Catholic and don't believe in throwing the Bible in their faces because it is a sin just like every other sin that we all commit. Finally, I'm considering if the study of that specific culture/subculture will help me in the future. Joining the French club would help me in the future because French is my minor and I could use the club and this assignment to gain further knowledge in my minor.
I think the most important factor is whatever I'm really interested in. That way, I won't get bored with the assignment half-way through the semester and want to give up. I'm open to learning whatever I can. I don't have any specifics on what I would like to know.

Beth I am in a similar situation with a frat. and though they wanted me to pledge this past, I think my best bet would to possibly pledge next fall after I get a better understanding of what frat. life is all about and the time I would have to put into doing somthing of that nature. I think it's good you want to be active and get involved with those other two clubs. It's good to hear that your somewhat open to all peoples and I took french in high school. I wasn't too good at it but I liked the language as a whole.
I like that you are open to a variety of different cultures. I also think that it is great that you are looking a range of different clubs and really thinking about how you could benefit from learning about the clubs. I took a different approach when I was looking at clubs/subcultures because I wanted to try something new and different, but I think that your plan is really well thought-out and again I think it is great that you are open to many different things.
